Ghost Forest Nienhagen

Nienhagen is a Baltic seaside resort near Rostock. It can be reached by car in less than half an hour. Unlike many other coastal sections in the area, it has a cliff line, which is mostly forested. Due to the wind and the salty air, not much brushwood is growing and also the tree trunks are building the branches relatively high up.

However, the forest probably only appears ghostly when dense wafts of fog are passing through. In good weather and low sun, though, the trees are forming long shadows and the naked trunks can be arranged very nicely.

The forest is directly connected to the promenade in Nienhagen and is not too big with about one kilometer in length. From a photographic point of view, it is unfortunately well accessible. A hiking trail, which is also open for bikes, leads to a dog beach at the other end of the forest. Even in September, when the main season was already over, there was still plenty of hustle and bustle in the late afternoon.
So, a visit in winter, preferably on a foggy day, is probably a good alternative.
