Michael's Photo parade 2020

2020 was a strange year for all of us. So it’s important to keep at least a certain level of normality whenever possible. I’m happy that Michael from Erkunde-die-Welt.de decided to keep up the tradition of calling for the best pictures of the year (in German language only). He changed the rules a bit, but you have never been asked to follow them strictly anyhow.

Also for the sake of normality, I decided not to go for a Corona special but to select pictures I would have picked in a regular year as well.
The pictures are coming from 3 categories: “Andalusia”, “Homeland” and “Roadtrip Germany”

Andalusia

Just before the first lockdown, we went to Andalusia for a 1.5-week roadtrip. End of Feb, beginning of March is a little bit earlier than usually recommended, but it turned out to be good timing with nice weather and fewer tourists than usual.

The pictures below are from Seville and Granada. You can find more of them in the respective gallery and more stories via the table of content included there or with the tag Andalusia.

Homeland

Spring and early summer brought the lockdown and very limited options to travel (none for me to be precise). So I photographed more in the area around my hometown than all the last years together.

The water tower at the top of this post is just a 15 minutes walk from my home and it became one of my favorite motives. And if you’re lucky (or go often enough) you have the right light and a hot-air balloon flies by - then you just have to make sure to compose everything nicely.

The second picture is from the city center of Ulm. The Ehinger Tor (Ehinger Gate) is a remainder of the old Bundesfestung Ulm (Fortress of Ulm). Like other places with easy access and good hiding opportunities it captures the interest of “artists”. Usually, I’m a fan of murals, but this for sure does not include tags and alike. But if you play around with colors, it becomes art of its own 🌝.

Roadtrip Germany

After re-planning our summer vacation twice we finally stayed in Germany for another roadtrip - this time straight up to the north and back to the Alps.

The travelogue still needs to finalized, but you can already find some articles starting here.
