Michael's Photo parade 2021
Like every year Michael from Erkunde-die-Welt.de [↗] has called for the photo parade[↗] (in German language only). This year, in addition to 6 main categories, he has defined 6 additional tasks. You are not obliged to follow them strictly, but part of the fun is to see if you have photographed suitable pictures.
Because of the early deadline and the given categories, this is not really a best-of-2021, but many pictures would make it into such a list.
Enough of the preface, here are the 12 categories with 2 pictures each from this year:
Light and shadow
The first image is from the Zeche Zollverein and is one of only two images that made it into this list. You can see more in this blog entry.
The second picture is proof that the old “rule” of not shooting at noon makes no sense. It is exactly the harsh midday light that creates the interesting shadow play. The picture was taken in the south of Tenerife. A travelogue will follow, but it will take more time to come.
Animal
Since I like to photograph animals, I could have shown a whole series of pictures here. I finally decided on these two.
The first one was taken in the Bird Castle Weilrod and you already know it from the last blog post.
The second one looks like it was taken in the wild, but it was made in the Wildpark Bad Mergentheim. You can find more pictures here.
Waters
Another topic where it was difficult for me to limit myself to 2 pictures (ok, I have placed two more in other categories 😉).
The first picture was shot on Tenerife again. This time in Bajamar, a small town in the north.
The second is from my series "winter pictures" of which you will find several more in this list.
View
These two images are also from Tenerife. The first one shows the Playa El Bollullo near Puerto de la Cruz and the second one a sunrise in the Anaga Mountains where the sun did not really show up, but the low clouds were picturesquely hanging on the coast.
Going high
What is more suitable for "going high" than skyscrapers? And where can you find the most in Germany? Correct: In Frankfurt.
There will be a short report about that in this blog soon. [Edit: Meanwhile you can find it here].
Black and white
The first picture is not black and white in a strict sense. However, the light blue coloration fits well with the cold winter mood.
The second picture, you will have guessed, is again from Tenerife. Taken on one of the main beaches in Puerto de la Cruz.
So much for the main categories. However, Michael has come up with a few additional tasks for those "who have found the categories too easy". It starts with ...
bloomed
When the long winter finally said goodbye this year, I went (still at very fresh temperatures) to Wolfstal. The Wolfstal is about 40 minutes away from Ulm and you can find more here.
narrow
"Narrow" was the category I had the hardest time with. But then I thought a little bit outside the box and came up with these two pictures:
Impact
That I had two pictures for this category was pure coincidence. They were taken at an old hut, which looks as if it had been decaying for a long time, but which is still used as storage for construction site barriers.
red
Red is my favorite color. So it's no wonder that I keep photographing motifs that fit into this category.
The first shows the facade of the Skyline Plaza in Frankfurt. And the second one a staircase in the museum of the Zeche Zollverein. In the corresponding blog entry, you can find more of them.
minimalistic
Here the two pictures from the last category would have fit well, but I decided to use two tree pictures.
The first is again from the winter series. The second shows a view into the treetops.
Pure nature
And last-but-not-least again a category in which I could present quite a few pictures and which would have fitted also as best-of.
The first one was taken in the Anaga mountains on Tenerife.
The second one comes, like the pictures under "bloomed", from my visits to the Wolfstal.
Best of
Usually, this is the most difficult task. This time it was clear that it would be one of the winter pictures, just which one?
The picture was taken during a snowstorm just a few minutes from my home. On the one hand, this provides the pictures with a special mood and on the other hand, it helps to avoid too many footprints distracting from the main motif.
Which is your favorite?
