Luminale Frankfurt 2016
First published in 2016
Every second year Frankfurt and surrounding cities are celebrating the Luminale, a festival of Lighting Culture (that’s how they describe it themselves). It consists mainly of light installations that are spread all over the area.
I saw some nice pictures of former events and thought it might be worth giving it a try. So I drove up to Frankfurt on Sunday afternoon and was in the city center quite sometime before dusk.
The festival attracted quite some people and a surprisingly high portion of them carried a tripod. Unfortunately, reality didn’t match expectations. At least in the city center very few skyscrapers or other buildings were lit and as it was Sunday even the usual lighting by the office workers was missing. So I ended up with only very few pictures.
The "Hauptbahnhof" (= Central Train Station) was one of the focal points with installations inside the entrance hall and on the forecourt, plus some nice lighting of the building itself.
Another building with permanent lighting (they had some projection on other buildings, too) was the Bankhaus Metzler near the river bank.
