During our BeNeLux road trip, the train station Liège-Guillemins was the second highlight. The day before, we had had a look at the impressive industrial architecture of the past. Today, the modern interpretation of a railway station was at the center of attention.
Liège Guillemins station was built by Santiago Calatrava, who also designed the Oculus in New York and the L'Hemisfèric in Valencia.
We booked a hotel directly opposite and took the opportunity to have 3 photo sessions at the station.
The first time was on Saturday afternoon and it was surprisingly empty. Unfortunately, it was warm but completely cloudy. When we returned in the evening, the clouds had already lifted and the next morning we had beautiful sunshine.
All three moods have something, but the grey sky and the grey concrete of the building are too much tone-in-tone for my liking. Still, at those times you can make good photos indoors or of the escalators, for example. Often I developed the picture black and white to emphasize the graphical appearance.
My favorites are the pictures taken during the Blue Hour. The lighting, although not primarily intended for this purpose, forms a nice contrast to the dark blue of the sky.
