Tiger & Turtle - Magic Mountain, Duisburg
The full travelogue is available in German language only. You can switch to the German blog here.
The first stop on our way back from the Netherlands was Duisburg. You might wonder why, but there are at least two places worth visiting. The first one being "Tiger & Turtle - Magic Mountain".
Tiger and Turtle is a landmark in Duisburg-Angerhausen, south of the city center. It is a sculpture built in 2011 and was inspired by a rollercoaster. It is placed on a 35-meter high former mine dump. Except for the vertical looping you can climb the sculpture.
We timed our visit so that we arrived just in time for some blue-hour shots. Ok, 10 minutes earlier would have been a plus, but traffic in the Ruhr area is different from the Netherlands or Belgium. Luckily, we found parking right at the base of the hill.
Quite some people are here. Young people and children climbing the sculpture; Adults who don't have the courage or go into the sculpture as well.
I tried to shoot a panorama with my standard zoom lens first, but quickly changed to my 12mm lens and stayed with that one.
In the end, I climbed a little bit upon the sculpture, but couldn't find a nice perspective from there.
There is not a lot more to see around this area. So, after some 30 minutes or so we called it a day.
