Frankfurt cityscape
End of Juli I had a couple of hours to photograph the skyline of Frankfurt.
I started at the airport and took the train to the main shopping street the "Zeil". But before taking the local train, I went to the long-distance train station at the airport. This is an underground station connected to the airport's Terminal 1 by a pedestrian bridge. Above the tracks is a huge hall with a glass roof.
Once on the Zeil, I went straight to the shopping center "My Zeil" [↗] (no kidding, it's really called that). It was opened in 2009 and has 6 floors and as its main attraction a 42m long escalator. But also the roof with its 3,200 triangular glass elements is impressive.
From the shopping center, I walked towards the banking district with its skyscrapers. Frankfurt is the skyscraper capital of Germany; 18 out of 19 german skyscrapers can be found here. Currently, 37 buildings are higher than 100 meters.
There are several places where they are clustered and I've already shown you some pictures from the European Quarter. So, this time it's more about the central part where most of the banks have their offices.
Finally, I made my way to the river Main with the Holbeinsteg and the Westhafen; an old inland harbor that is now used as a residential area.
