Waterfalls near Kochel am See
Kochel am See is a small town ca. 60 km south of Munich. The area south of Munich is covered with smaller and bigger lakes which have been created by the last ice age. Lake Kochel is one of them. With so many lakes around it's not really a surprise that this area has quite some waterfalls as well.
Lainbach Waterfall
You can find the Lainbach Waterfall [↗] at the end of a nice valley. Parking is a little bit tricky; the best idea is to start at the official parking of the Franz Marc Museum even a (very reasonable) fee is required.
It's an easy 30 minutes walk along the small river and after a while, the way crosses the river and climbs up to the edge of the waterfall. You can also walk the riverbed even though you have to find your way around some barrages. Of course, this is a pretty slippery exercise, so be careful and make sure that you have proper footwear.
Kesselbach Waterfalls and Heckenbach Waterfall
These falls are located south of Kochel. You follow the B11 until it leaves the lake. At the road that leads to the Walchensee power plant (Walchenseekraftwerk) there is a parking lot that also offers access to the lake. From here you walk uphill following the street.
The Heckenbach Waterfall is directly on the street while you have to walk a bit to reach the Kesselbach Waterfalls. To reach them you have to take the first forest road on the right-hand side and follow it for some 20 minutes or so. The falls are not posted at the beginning, but when you have to leave the road you'll find a signpost (but by then you can already hear the falls).
